Shell Annual Dinner 2011

The Shell Annual Dinner is the largest event on the CUCES calendar and it was a raving success. Students, past students and staff couldn't get enough of the food, music and the company. The event brought the whole department much closer since it provided a great opportunity for students and staff to interact outside the labs and lecture rooms.

On the 2 previous occasions, the event was held at Murray Edwards college, but this time the venue was changed to the grand ballroom of the University Arms hotel in the heart of the city. After the dinner, the outgoing CUCES president Constantinos Pittas, the incoming president Akshay Deshmukh, the Head of Department, Dr. Nigel Slater and the Shell representative Neal Morgan had a few words to say before the ballroom turned into a dance floor.

Dr. Patrick Barrie, Dr. Sarah Rough and Dr. Kamran Yunus showed us that they not only knew a thing or two about Chem eng but that they can dominate the dance floor as well. The music was reaching fever pitch, but was cut short due to the hotel's policy of silence after midnight. However the party continued throughout the night at Ballare, a popular nightclub well known for its cheese.
